Mérona

Merona is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Merona is located at 642 m above sea level. M., approximately 15 km south-southeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farm estate extends in the Jura, on a saddle between Mount Chavet in the west and the crest of the Côte de l' Today in the east, to the west of the Ain Valley.

The area of ​​2.97 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The area is from the heights of Mont Chavet (670 m above sea level. History

A chapel of Merona mentioned in documents in the 12th century. The village formed their own small estates owned by the Middle Ages to the barony Orgelet. In the year 1479 the castle of troops of King Louis XI. destroyed. Together with the Franche -Comté Merona came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The hamlet Merona consists of a castle and surrounding farms. The present building of the castle dates from the 18th century, while a stand-alone tower dates back to the medieval castle of the 13th century.

Population
