Merritt Island AVA

Merritt Iceland AVA ( recognized since 17 May 1983) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area covers the administrative area of Yolo County. The protected designation of origin is a subzone of the parent Clarksburg AVA.

Merritt Iceland is a 2023 acre island in the river delta of the Sacramento River, which is only about ten kilometers south of the city of Sacramento. The soil is a heavy clay soil and fertile. The cooling sea breezes of the nearby San Francisco Bay and the frequent early morning mist form a cool maritime climate, the benefits of early ripening grape variety Chardonnay. A large part of the vine is not processed in the field of AVA.
