Mert Korkmaz

Mert Korkmaz (2013 )

Zeki Mert Korkmaz ( born August 16, 1971 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.

Playing career

Association

The 1.88 m wide former central defender is the younger brother of a very successful football player Bülent Korkmaz. Both completed all youth sectors of the Turkish traditional clubs Galatasaray SK and were subsequently nominated in the professional squad. Unlike his brother Mert could not establish the association and so then came the move to former league rivals Kocaelispor the long run. At the beginning of the 1998/99 season was followed by a further change to Gaziantepspor. After three years at Malatyaspor followed eventually 2006/ 07, the change to the Istanbul club Belediyespor. With them, he succeeded in the first year again, the rise in the Turkcell Süper Lig After another year he finished there at the end of the 2007/08 season his active career.

National

Furthermore, Mert had Krokmaz five appearances in the Turkish national team, and seven for the Under-21s Turkey.

Coaching career

Immediately after the end of his playing career took Mert Korkmaz at the start of the new season an assistant coach job at his last club. He remained there for a year and then moved also as an assistant coach to Kocaelispor.

Since 2011 he works as an assistant coach with his former teammates Uğur Tütüneker. With this he was responsible for only the second division Kasımpaşa Istanbul and then from the same league Torku Konyaspor. With the latter, the trainer team was able to playoff win the TFF 1 Lig and hence the rise in the Süper Lig

In January 2014, he took over the third division Yeni Malatyaspor for the first time in a club sener coaching career as head coach. After two months, he resigned from his position back.

Private

Korkmaz is married and the father of two children ( son and daughter).
