Mervyn Davies, Baron Davies of Abersoch

Evan Mervyn Davies, Baron Davies of Abersoch, CBE ( born November 21, 1952) is a British politician.

In his role as Minister of State for Economic Affairs, he was responsible for UK Trade and Investment, the Economic Development Institute of the British government. He was also responsible for the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Career

Davies studied Management Development at Harvard Business School and is a member of the Institute of Bankers.

From 2001 to 2006 he was CEO from 2006 to 2009 and Chairman of Standard Chartered Bank.

He is vice chairman and partner at U.S. private equity firm Corsair Capital and board member of the asset management PineBridge. He is the Senior Independent Director, Diageo and executive director of the investment bank Moelis and Co.

Offices and Awards

Davies is chairman of the council of Bangor University. He is also a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts and Justice of the Peace in Hong Kong.

Davies was awarded in June 2002 for his work in the financial sector of the Order of the British Empire. When Baron Davies of Abersoch, he was appointed Life Peer and thereby received a seat in the House of Lords.

Davies is married and has two children. He is fluent in Welsh.
