Méry

Méry is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Méry is at 360 m above sea level. M., about 9 km north of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the northwest of the department of Savoie, on the western edge of the massif of the Wallows and at the foot of Mont Revard, slightly elevated position at the edge of a valley that runs parallel to the valley floor from Chambery, near the Lac du Bourget.

The area of ​​9.07 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the foothills. The main part of the territory is occupied by a broad, formerly marshy valley that is drained by Tillet north to the Lac du Bourget. In the west the boundary runs along the channeled Tillet. From here, the municipality's area extends eastward over the 1.5 km wide valley floor and the gently rising slope of Méry. This is followed by the wooded steep slope close to ( Bois du Fournet ) of Mont Revard. This steep slope is dominated by a prominent rock wall whose upper edge forms the eastern boundary. History

The first mention of Méry was already in the 9th century under the name Mariacum. In the 12th century gave the Bishop of Grenoble, the town 's Priory Saint- Jeoire, and in the 13th century came Méry in the possession of the monastery Hautecombe.

The village church of Méry was built in the 19th century. At the edge of the forest above the village, the Château lapel is a chapel.

Population

With 1462 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Méry one of the smaller communities of the department of Savoie. After the population was declining in the first half of the 20th century, a striking increase in population was recorded since the mid-1970s thanks to the attractive residential area again.
