Mesh (Band)

Mesh are a synthpop band from Bristol, England.

History

Mesh were founded by the keyboardists Neil Taylor, Rich Silverthorn and Mark Hockings. Taylor and Silverthorn already played together, when they first met in 1991 at a concert of Mark Hockings and henceforth began as a mesh, to make music. The roots of their music are in the synth-pop of the 1980s, which is reflected mainly in an undeniable resemblance to the sound of Depeche Mode. Catchy melodies, minimalist synth sounds and emotive singing form the substance of the songs.

The songwriting is usually initiated by Silverthorn and / or Hockings, at least develop the rough structure of the song. Hocking writes the lyrics alone, and then inserts it in the studio, the song structure. Taylor developed his creativity in the studio, so to speak, was rather the practitioner. Hocking took over the singer part, after he declared himself willing to be uniquely and also of the opinion that a copywriter must sing his own songs since he was the only one who really knew what it was all in his song.

As a studio, the home of Silver Thorn's mother had to serve, which was equipped with numerous of mesh equipment, converted to the "Urban Studios ". Here mesh produce their sound today. The demos came initially but at a more moderate interest. Only when the then new music magazine Future Music took up three songs and pressed on her sampler, an interest seemed suddenly to show. From then on, began initial negotiations with record companies, but what gave for no acceptable result. So they called ado his own label Tolerance Records in life. Supported by their families they started in August 1994, the EP Fragile to drive on their own.

Immediately Memento Materia became aware of mesh after them zusandten The Body Project, a promotional company for electronic music from Sweden, a recording of mesh. A short time later, the contract was closed and the Fragile EP re-released with the new label in early 1996. Then came in the same year Meshes first full album on the market. The sales exceeded the expectations of the band. The first single release from the album You did not want me became a number of clubs to hit.

With this success in the back mesh mounted 1997 expanded edition of Fragile EP for the European and American market out. Likewise, they published in their competent for the U.S. market Jarrett Records label, the single You Did not Want Me meantime Jarrett has signed a major contract with Navarre and in 1999 the album The Point at Which It Falls Apart was released worldwide. The recent works of mesh seem to move away from minimalism and more and more keep coming orchestral therefore. The pretty pop Who Watches Over Me? Album from 2002 follows the end of fragments 2, a double album with remixes and hard to find mesh tracks.

In October 2006, Neil Taylor left the band for personal reasons.

Style

The group is known for its blend of synthetic and acoustic influences and sound often compared to Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and De / Vision.

The individual pieces usually act quite suitable for mass production and arrange hard and aggressive influences with catchy and melodic sounds. It is the mixture of very commercial appearing rhythms and intense lyrics that are quite politically to understand, account for a major part of the sound of mesh and quickly led to the success of the first EP.
