Messier 46

Messier 46 (also known as NGC 2437 ) is a 6.1 likes bright cluster with an angular extent of 27 ' in the constellation Puppis.

The cluster is about 5400 light-years away and spans an area of ​​30 light years. The stars in the cluster are about 300 million years old. In the foreground of M46 is the planetary nebula NGC 2438, which, however, not part of the cluster and only 3,000 light- years away.
