NGC 2438

NGC 2438 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Puppis. It was discovered on 19 March 1786 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.

The mist seems to form a unit with the open star cluster Messier 46 in observation. This is true in the same direction, but with a distance of 5400 light years, about 2500 light-years farther away. The white dwarf in the center of NGC 2438 has an apparent magnitude of 17.7 mag.
