It is 91.2 square kilometers and inhabited 4026 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The place Mexilhoeira Grande consists primarily of white houses and narrow alleyways and is located north of Portimão in the rural area. Most of the residents earn with traditional hand tools and farming their livelihood.

Culture

Near the small town of Alcalar are the largest known Copper Age dome grave necropolis of Portugal and on a plateau, the associated large settlement ( 3rd millennium BC). Today, you can one of the grave monuments, the restored monument 7 visit.
