The Miami Manatees were an American ice hockey team from Miami, Florida. The team played in the 2003/04 season in the World Hockey Association 2

History

The team was founded in 2003 as a franchise of the World Hockey Association inaugural 2. The team was named after the manatees (English manatees ). One of these specimens was also used for the official club logo. In their only game time occupied the Mantees, which was coached by former Canadian NHL player Zac Boyer, fifth place in the WHA2 after the regular season. This would not really enough to reach the playoffs. Since the Manatees but only one average attendance of less than 1,500 per game had and the Miami Arena with a capacity of 14,696 spectators veruarsachte as a venue for high losses, decided to team owner David Waronker to use an exit clause and relocate the team to the nearby superior Maitland. This was met with the players but with resistance, so it was decided only to contest the Games Away. Then some players left the franchise. With an abbreviated Schedule of 48 games but eventually the manatees had a better points average, than the front of them lying Orlando Seals and reached the playoffs still. In this they were subject to the eventual champions Jacksonville Barracudas with 1:2 wins in the best-of -three series, with the ultimate goal came in game three in extra time.

When the World Hockey Association 2 was dissolved after one year, also featured the Manatees finally a game operation.
