Michael Anthony Bilandic

Michael Anthony Bilandic ( born February 13, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, † January 16, 2002 ) was an American lawyer, politician of the Democratic Party and Mayor of Chicago.

Life

The son of Croatian immigrants began after visiting the De La Salle High School in Chicago in 1940 to study at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota where she earned a Bachelor of Science (BS ). During the Second World War he did his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps and was most recently promoted to first lieutenant. A subsequent post-graduate studies in law at the Law School at DePaul University, where he graduated with a Juris Doctor ( JD) and was after the lawyer's approval in the state of Illinois as an attorney in Chicago.

His political career began in 1969 when he was elected as a candidate of the Democratic Party in the City Council of Chicago and until 1976 represented the 11th electoral district there. After the death of longtime mayor Richard J. Daley on December 20, 1976, he was elected on December 28, 1976 as the successor to the mayor of Chicago by the city council. In the area code (Primary ) for the presentation of the democratic candidate for mayor in 1979 but he lost his intra-party opponent Jane Byrne, whom he had dismissed when he took office in 1976 as head of the municipal Office of Consumer Protection.
