Michael Augustine (bishop)

Michael Augustine ( born June 12, 1933 Kovilanur ) is retired Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore.

Life

Michael Augustine received on 15 April 1961, and was ordained priest incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. Paul VI. appointed him on 30 January 1978 as Auxiliary Bishop in Madras and Mylapore and Titular Bishop of Bararus.

The Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy, consecrated him on 29 March of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Venmani S. As a motto he chose Fiat. On 19 June 1981 he was appointed Bishop of Vellore. John Paul II appointed him on 18 February 1992 Archbishop of Pondicherry and Cuddalore. From his office he resigned on 10 June 2004.
