Michael Bates, Baron Bates

Michael Bates, Baron Bates ( born May 26, 1961 in Gateshead ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ) and member of the House of Lords.

Life

Bates was from 1979 to 1983 as a junior partner in an insurance agency, after which he worked as an auditor and consultant in various investment companies. In 1984, he joined the Young Conservatives. Between 1991 and 1997 he was a member of the House of Commons for the District Langbaurgh for the Conservative Party. From 1992 to 1994 Bates worked as a parliamentary private secretary, first for the Minister of Social Affairs Nicholas Scott, then in the Northern Ireland Office of John Wheeler. 1995/96 was Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1996/97 Paymaster General. After his retirement from the Parliament Bates went back into the economy.

He is vice chairman of the Tories. 2008 to 2010 he was shadow minister in various cabinets, 2009/10 Whip of the opposition.
