Michael Boxall

Michael Joseph Boxall ( born August 18, 1988 in Auckland ) is a New Zealand soccer player.

Playing career

Beginning in New Zealand

Boxall attended Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland and played for the local school team. He could win in 2004 and 2005 together with the team and the league in 2005 even win the national championship. In 2006 he became captain of the school team.

He then played for a number of New Zealand teams. These included Central United, Ellerslie AFC and Auckland City FC. With Central United he could 2007, the Northern League and win with Auckland City he became a master in the New Zealand Football Championship. In each of 2006 and 2007 has been awarded to the best young players in New Zealand.

College in the U.S.

In 2007 he went to the United States in order for college soccer team of the University of California in Santa Barbara, California to play. In his first season for the Gauchos, he stood in twelve games on the court. Together with the Englishman Andy Iro he formed a secure defense. Due to a knee injury he fell out half of the season.

The change in the MLS

In MLS Supplemental Draft 2011 Boxall was drafted by the Vancouver Whitecaps as the first pick. On 17 March 2011 he signed with the Canadians and gave on March 19, his debut for the Major League Soccer franchise. Mid-2012, he returned to New Zealand and signed a two - year deal with A- League club Wellington Phoenix.

National

Boxall played for various youth national selections of New Zealand. His national debut was at the U- 20 national team of the country, where he completed 14 times in two years. During this time he was part of the squad at the OFC U -20 Championship 2007 and the U-20 World Cup 2007.

From 2007 to 2008 he was part of the U -23 New Zealand who qualified in Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Both in the qualifying matches, as well as in the Olympics, he was part of the team. In 2006, he played for a New Zealand special selections at Vietnam Football Federation Cup.

On 25 March 2011 he made his debut in the New Zealand national football team in a friendly match against China.
