Michael C. Barber

Michael Charles Barber SJ ( born July 13, 1954 in Salt Lake City ) is Bishop of Oakland.

Life

Michael Charles Barber joined in 1973 the Congregation of the Jesuits and studied in Spokane, Toronto and Rome. On 8 June 1985, he received in San Francisco to the priesthood. He then continued his studies in Rome and at Oxford University.

In 1991, he became a military chaplain of the United States Navy and rose to the Captain (2012 ).

From 2002 to 2010 taught Barber at St. Patrick 's Seminary of the Archdiocese of San Francisco in Menlo Park, where he was also spiritual. Subsequently, he was spiritual director of St. John 's Seminary Archdiocese of Boston.

2005 Barber was admitted as a Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem. In 2007 he was Konventualkaplan Order of Malta.

Pope Francis appointed him on May 3, 2013 as Bishop of Oakland. The Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Joseph Cordileone, donated to him on 25 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Thomas Anthony Daly, Auxiliary Bishop of San Jose in California, and Carlos Arthur Sevilla, SJ, Bishop Emeritus of Yakima.
