Michael Frendo

Michael Frendo ( born July 29, 1955) is a Maltese politician, former Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2010 and Speaker of the House.

Biography

Frendo studied law at the University of Malta and graduated in 1977. Subsequently, he studied at the University of Exeter. He is since 1987 for the Partit Nazzjonalista the House of Representatives on. In previous cabinets he had held various ministerial posts. He was from 1992 to 1994 Minister of Youth and the Arts, and from 1994 to 1996 Minister of Transport, Communication and Technology. From 2004 to 2008 he was a Maltese Foreign Minister. After the parliamentary elections of 8 March 2008, he resigned from the Cabinet and was replaced by the former Interior and Justice Minister Tonio Borg as Foreign Minister.

Frendo speaks Maltese and English, French and Italian. He is married and has three children.

On 29 April 2010 he was Speaker of the House, succeeding Louis Galea as parliament speaker.
