Michael Geiger
Michael Geiger ( born September 27, 1960 in Böckingen ) is a former German football player and later coach.
Club career
Violinist playing in the youth at Union Böckingen. His Bundesliga career even as a 18 -year-old started at Eintracht Braunschweig. Here the defender made his first professional game five days before his 19th birthday, on 22 September 1979. During the Braunschweiger 1-2 defeat at Bayer Uerdingen he was sent in the 79th minute for Manfred Tripbacher the field. In eleven games he came in his first season. After the descent, it developed in the Second League North team regular concord. He was a running joyful player with offensive drive and good passing game, which caused the enemy unrest.
In the two seasons 1981/82 and 1982/83 he was in every league game of his club on the pitch; on 26 September 1981, he scored in the match against Darmstadt 98 his first Bundesliga goal for the final score of 3-0, which until the end of his career should follow eight more goals in the top flight. The harmony rose from 1985; Geiger's last Bundesliga game was the 0-1 defeat of Brunswick against Bayern Munich on the final day. He remained his club but also in the second division yet another season faithful. Although he missed only one game in the season 1985/86 and was in each case the entire season on the field in the remaining 37 games, he moved to the season in the amateur to VfL Wolfsburg.
With the wolves Geiger rose in 1992 from the Oberliga Nord in the second league. The return to professional football was for him but after one season with only twelve missions over again; he ended his active career and became a coach.
Overall violinist comes to 134 games ( nine goals) in the first and 81 inserts ( 14 goals) in the second division. He was not even dismissed.
Coaching career
At the beginning of the 1993/94 season took over as coach at VfB Geiger Faller life; in two years, he led the first team of the district in the national league. After a three -year stint at the SSV Vorsfelde, which he brought from the Union in the league, he returned to Faller life where he followed for seven years, supervised by the end of the 2004/05 season, VfB in 220 national league games. He also occasionally plays in the tradition of the team VfL Wolfsburg.
National
Michael Geiger is one of the player with the most stakes in student and youth national teams. He never made it into the A- selection of the DFB, but was five times used in the U-21 national team. Premiere in the DFB Dress he had when he came in to replace Rudi Völler on September 22, 1981 in Arnsberg in a 4-2 victory against the U- 21 team in Finland. In November 1981, he was against the Austrian selection also substitute ( Lothar Matthäus ). In 1982, he was with the U -21 European vice- champion. He played in the quarter -final first leg against Spain the only time over 90 minutes; in the return game as well as in the second final against England, he was substituted in each case.
