Michael King

Michael King OBE (* December 15, 1945, † March 30, 2004 Maramarua, New Zealand) was a New Zealand historian and author.

Life

After his schooling at Sacred Heart College in Auckland and at St. Patrick 's College in Silverstream King studied history at Victoria University of Wellington, where in 1967 he achieved a bachelor's degree in history. In 1968 he succeeded the Master in History at the University of Waikato. After that, King worked as a journalist at the newspaper Waikato Times in Hamilton. In 1978, he managed the Ph.D. in history at the University of Waikato.

King occupied himself in his work with the history and culture of Māori in New Zealand. His publications include works on the topic of the Māori Being Pakeha (1985 ), '' Moiori (1989) and The Penguin History of New Zealand ( 2003). In addition, he wrote as an author biographies to Te Puea Herangi, Whina Cooper, Frank Sargeson (1995) and Janet Frame ( 2000).

After the failure of his first marriage married Mary King Jungowska. King died in 2004 and his wife in a car accident near Maramarua (north of Waikato ).
