Michael Konsel
Michael Konsel ( born March 6, 1962 in Vienna ) is a retired Austrian football player.
Club career
Through his grandfather, he came at the age of six years to 05 Fortuna, where he first began to play at left- decker. With about nine years, he then took the first time the position of the goalkeeper, the position he would have from now on for the rest of his football career. With 16 years Konsel moved to FC Kritzendorf, where he was the goalie fight team immediately.
The former coach of the First Vienna FC 1894, Peter Mueller, the then 19 -year-old talent piloted finally to Vienna's history, the club on the Hohewarte. 1982 Konsel reserve goalkeeper of the Under-21 and just a year later 3 goalie in the first team of Vienna. In January 1985 Konsel moved to SK Rapid Vienna to Hütteldorf. He became the favorite of many Rapid fans through his bravura performance in goal for the Hütteldorfer order, including the "Panther of Hütteldorf " called him. With 384 games aforementioned Konsel is for the player with the second most championship games for Rapid behind Peter Schöttel.
In 1997 he moved to AS Roma in the Italian Serie A, where he was elected in his first season just the best goalie in the league. Within a short time he became the darling of the Roma fans, who gave him the nickname "Pantera ". After the second football World Cup participation in 1998 Michael Konsel had to be operated on the left Achilles tendon. He struggled after this operation, however, back in April 1999 and celebrated his comeback in the goal of AS Roma. His last change took place in autumn 1999 for SSC Venice, where he played for one year. Michael Konsel ended his football career on January 28, 2002.
National team
In the Austrian National Team Konsel completed 43 matches and participated in two World Cup finals (1990 and 1998 Italy France). At the finals in Italy, he served as a substitute goalkeeper on that in France he was then even the number 1 and went to three World Cup inserts. Konsel is married and has two sons.
Besides his career he has been involved to date for the young goalkeeper in Austria and called 1995 with his friend and former teammate Alexander Elstner Vienna the " Michael Konsel goalie camps ", a football camp for children and young people, to life. As of March 2007, he took part in the third season of Dancing with the Stars. He retired in the fourth round with his partner Nicole Kuntner.
