Michael Leuschner

Michael Leuschner ( born April 29, 1948 in Wernigerode ) is a German pianist and professor of piano at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg.

Life and work

Michael Leuschner was born on 29 April 1948 in Wernigerode in the Harz. His father Joachim Leuschner was a historian and university teacher, his mother Helga interpreter. He grew up in Göttingen, and received his first piano lessons from meta Conrad and later with Martin Galling. From 1967 to 1973 he studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, with Professors Edith Picht - Axenfeld, Helmut Barth ( chamber music) and Carl Seemann. He won several awards and a scholarship in 1976 enabled him to continue studying with Bernard Roberts in London. He was also invited to participate in Beethoven Course in Positano with Wilhelm Kempff. Alfred Brendel also counted as part of a course to his teachers.

From 1984 to 1989, Leuschner professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Hanover. In 1989 he followed a call to Freiburg at the Academy of Music where he teaches since then. By 2011, he was for many years Speaker of the department keyboard instruments. His teaching extended regularly on master classes in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Japan, the U.S., Russia and Ukraine. In 1990 he was at the University of Western Australia in Perth " artist in residence ".

Leuschner has performed in many countries of Europe and Asia, in Australia, the USA and South America. His extensive repertoire with numerous works from Bach to modern classics comprises some 300 works, including the 32 sonatas of Beethoven, which he performed several times cyclically. In addition to his solo career is also often Leuschner dedicated to chamber music, including founded in 1994 as a member of Dreisamstadion trio. His chamber music repertoire includes almost all duets for violin and piano, cello and piano as well as the most important trios, piano quartets and quintets.

CD recordings appeared, inter alia, in Germany ( abadone ) with works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann and Debussy, Switzerland ( four-hand works by Schubert ), USA sonatas by Clementi ( brioso ) and Japan (ACJ ) and others with works by Handel, Beethoven, Chopin and Brahms.

Leuschner is long -standing chairman of the Denzlinger Cultural Committee and organizer of a highly acclaimed series of concerts of chamber music concerts. In 2003, he was honored for his achievements with the first Denzlinger Culture Award.
