Michael Peter

Michael Peter ( born May 7, 1949 in Heidelberg, † 23 October 1997) was a German hockey player and Olympic champion. He played a total of 262 times for the German national hockey team.

Career

Michael Peter played his entire career for the HC Heidelberg. In 1971, he was with his club German indoor champion in 1982, he won his only outdoor title.

In the national team he debuted 1969. 1971 he took part in the first World Cup in Barcelona and was with the German team fifth. A year later, the Germans were the world champions Pakistan in the final of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich against. The Germans won on home soil with a goal by Michael Krause 1-0. Michael Peter formed, along with team captain Carsten Keller 's central defense, and played a kind of Libero, earning him the nickname " Beckenbauer of the German Hockey" earned.
