Michael Ripper

Michael Ripper ( born January 27, 1913 in Portsmouth, † June 28, 2000 in London) was a British actor.

Life

Ripper began his film career in 1936, first as an extra or in small supporting roles. Until 1940 he was called in only four out of 29 films in the credits. Until the mid- 1950s, he appeared in numerous British films, including Oliver Twist, Richard III. and Nineteen Eighty-Four, it remained for him but still only a minor supporting roles. In 1935 he participated in his first Hammer production, 1948-1973, he played in more than 30 best selling films and was the most booked actors of the studio, long before the better-known representatives of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. However, even with hammer him remained mostly only minor roles, where he also worked frequently with strong masking. The British television audiences, he is known not only by numerous guest appearances on popular TV series such as secret mission for John Drake, Simon Templar, The foxes and the watchdogs. He has played in the children's series Freewheelers and the Scarecrow and had recurring guest roles on the sitcom Butterflies and in Jeeves and Wooster - Lord and Master.

Ripper was married three times, from the first two marriages went forth each child. In his second marriage he was married 1972-1978 to actress Catherine Finn, the last marriage with the costume designer Cecelia Doidge held until his death.
