Michael Woolfson

Michael Mark Woolfson ( born January 9, 1927) is a British physicist.

Woolfson went to Jesus College (Oxford) and received the PhD at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ( UMIST ). From 1952 to 1954 he was at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, from 1954 to 1955 ICI Fellow of the University of Cambridge. Then he was from 1955 to 1965 at UMIST and from 1965 to 1994 Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of York, where he headed the Department of Physics from 1982 to 1987. He is currently professor emeritus at the University of York.

Woolfson was concerned with the formation of stars and planets, as well as biophysics and crystal structure analysis.
