Michel Brault

Michel Brault, OQ ( born June 25, 1928 in Montréal, Québec, † September 21, 2013 in Toronto ) was a Canadian cinematographer and film director.

Life and achievements

In Canada Brault collaborated with director Claude Jutra. In California, he met French director Jean Rouch 1959, from which the Cinéma vérité arose. In Europe, he devoted himself to the Direct Cinema, a form of documentary. From 1956 to 1965 he was with the National Film Board of Canada, after which he founded Nanouk film.

About 70 films are among his works as a cameraman and more than 20 films bear the stamp of its director. He also worked as a screenwriter, film producer, editor and art director. In the action movie No Mercy ( No Mercy ) ( 1986) starring Richard Gere and Kim Basinger, he stood behind the camera.
