Molson Prize

The Molson Prize for the Arts is awarded annually by the Canada Council for the Arts to persons who have rendered outstanding services with their works to the cultural and intellectual heritage of Canada.

History of the Award

The Molson Prize in 1964 by the Molson Family Foundation, a foundation of the wealthy has become a brewer Molson Canadian family, furnished and equipped with an endowment of 1 million Canadian dollars. Prizes will be awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The prize money of 50,000 Canadian dollars go each one to an artist / in and secondly to a winners / in the fields of science and the humanities.

Award requirements

The respective candidates for the Molson Prize must be Canadian citizens or have a permanent residence in Canada. Other requirements are that the special merit of candidates are already widely known and the candidates are still very active and productive. The award therefore should not refer to the life's work of the candidates, but also promote the future path. Organizations and companies are not eligible as candidates, also the price is not awarded post mortem.
