Mary Pratt (painter)

Mary Frances Pratt CC (birth name: West) ( born March 15, 1935 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada ) is a Canadian painter who was known for her still lifes.

Life

Mary Pratt is one of the two daughters of a lawyer, who was from 1952 to 1958 Minister of Justice of the Province of New Brunswick over the years. She studied performing arts at Mount Allison University and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from. During her studies, she met her first husband, the artist Christopher Pratt, know. The couple married in 1958 and had four children in the following years. 1964 the family moved to St. John's on the island of Newfoundland. In 1967 she had her first solo exhibition at the Memorial University Art Gallery in St. John's. The couple separated in 1990.

Since the 1980s, Pratt writes for Canadian newspapers such as The Globe and Mail in Toronto and Canadian magazines essays and articles. Her work has been shown in major galleries in Canada and published in magazines.

Today Pratt is married to American teacher and artist James Rosen.
