Gerald Ferguson

Gerald Ferguson ( born January 29, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, † October 8, 2009 in Halifax, Canada ) was an American- Canadian painter, concept artist and high school teacher.

Life

Ferguson attended Wilmington College in Wilmington, where he made the 1962 Bachelor of Science. In 1966, he graduated from Ohio University in Athens as a Master of Fine Arts ( MFA). At Wilmington College, he was from 1965 to 1967, before he taught between 1967 and 1968 at the Kansas City Art Center in Kansas City (Missouri ). 1968 was a call to the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design ( NSCAD ) in Halifax in Nova Scotia, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.

In the time at NSCAD, the college developed as an important center of conceptual art, as described by the American art historian activist Lucy Lippard in your work Six Years: portrayed The Dematerialization of the Art Object from 1966 to 1977 from the year 1973.

From 1972 to 1973 Ferguson was a visiting professor at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia.
