Geography

Geographical location

The community is located south of the city in the southern Friesach Friesacher field at the Metnitz.

Michel village is divided into the two cadastral Michelsdorf and Lorenzenberg. The municipality includes nine villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

History

The Church of Michel village was 783/785 first mentioned, the branch church on the Lorenzenberg 1043rd

In the formation of local churches in Carinthia Katastralgemeinden Michelsdorf and Lorenzenberg 1850 were initially assigned Friesach. In 1893 she separated from Friesach as local church Michelsdorf. 1973 Michel village was reconnected Friesach, and after a referendum in 1992, in turn, an independent village.

Population

According to the 2001 census, the village has 1,201 inhabitants Michel, of which 95.6 % 2.8% Austrian and Bosnian citizen. 84.3 % of the population are Roman Catholics, 3.3% to 2.8% are Protestant Church and the Islamic faith. 8.4 % have no religious confession.

Culture and sights

  • Parish Church of St. Veit Michel village, documented 784/785 mentioned, is a medium sized, in the nave Romanesque building, which was modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. The tower mounting on the west side in the Gothic style is referred to by the year 1447.
  • The Branch Church St.. Lawrence, in 1043 first mentioned on the Lorenzenberg, is built on a rocky peak early Gothic building.
  • From 1873 disused ironworks in 1806 erected a shepherd blast furnace has been preserved.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Michel Village has the following blazon: " In accompanies a green sloping left golden, black -backed rust, top of a golden hop shoots with a leaf and two cones, down from a parallel to the rust growing golden ear. "

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on December 6, 1994. The flag is green-yellow with integrated crest.

The grid symbolizes the parish patron saint Laurentius, who is said to have suffered martyrdom on a grid according to the legend. Been from the coat of arms, who led the congregation Michelsdorf from 1963 until the annexation to Friesach in 1973, is the hop cones, which alludes to the traditional brewery taken over. The ear of corn is for cultivation in the municipality as well as for the cure in Agathenhof, where among other things the Mayr cure is applied with grain products.
