Kappel am Krappfeld is a municipality with 1961 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia.

Geography

Geographical location

Kappel is located around 25 km north-east of Klagenfurt. The municipality covers a large part of the madder field as well as parts of the Brückler mountain country, which separates the Krappfeld Görtschitztal from the east. The area is drained mainly by the Gurk. The neighboring municipalities are, from the north clockwise: Althofen, Guttaring, Klein Sankt Paul, Eberstein, Sankt Georgen aL and Mölbling.

History

The fertile area was relatively densely populated already in Celtic and Roman times. The Church in St. Martin was 991/1023, the castle Old Man Mountain in 1065, the parish church of St.. Paul Kappel in 1158 first mentioned.

The place name Kappel goes back to an early and significant capella, from which the present parish church of St. Martin emerged, which became an important mother parish of the area. From the 15th to the 18th century, the provosts of St. Bartlmä had to Friesach held the parish and resided temporarily there. With the Burgmann Mountain, from 1627 to 1876 in the possession of the Gurk cathedral dean, and the Silberegg castle there are two former places of residence at the current municipal area.

After the March Revolution of 1848 1850 the local churches Krasta and Silberegg were first formed, which were united in 1870 to the municipality Krasta. 1958, the church name was changed in Kappel am Krappfeld. The resolution of the community in the course of structural reform community in Carinthia was prevented by a referendum.

Population

The municipality has 2,107 inhabitants Kappel (2001), of which 94.2 % 1.9% Austrian and Yugoslav citizens. 86.6 % are Roman Catholic, 3.4% to 2.8% Protestant Church and Islam. 5.6 % have no religious confession.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • Parish Church of St. Paul in Kappel with Gothic Karner
  • Burgmann Mountain, documented 1065-75 was first mentioned by the Bishop of Brixen, located in 691 m above sea level on the outlet of a mountain slope
  • Castle ruins Altmannsberg arose almost simultaneously with the above the castle below. It was inhabited until the 16th century.
  • Sanctuary of St. Florian
  • Castle Silberegg in the same spot just south of Althofen, was first documented in 1274. In its present form, the castle-like, three-storey building was built in the 16th century.

Economy and infrastructure

The community Kappel is a typical rural community with small businesses. According to the 2001 census, there are 275 employees, including 107 in construction, in the community and 687 commuters. There are 99 farms ( of which 53 are full- time farmers ) who farm together 4,703 ha. It is important to cereal crops. There is a primary school, a kindergarten and two volunteer fire departments.

Through the municipal area lead the Friesacher road (B 317 ) and state roads L82, L83 and L94. At the Rudolf train Klagenfurt - St. Veit are the stops Passering and Kappel.

The council consists of 19 members and is as follows since the municipal elections in 2009 together:

Directly elected mayor is Martin Gruber ( ÖVP).

Coat of arms

Blazon: ". In a blue shield on the flanks pale golden, two ears between them in the sign occupied one with a blue chevron silver battlements top, surmounted by a silver miter with departing bands "

The coat of arms of the municipality plays in part to the various former manor fractions in present-day municipality of: The silver corner in the sign is " naturally" for Silberegg that bezinnte tip about it on lock man mountain and the bishop's miter on the Gurk or Friesacher provosts. The two ears of corn stand for the grain industry, which until today is economically important for the community, and the blue shield base alludes to the importance of the area as a water reservoir to.

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on September 11, 1995. The flag is blue and white with integrated crest.
