Metnitz

Metnitz is an Austrian market town with 2090 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia.

Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in the north of Carinthia and comprises the bulk of the Metnitztales and the adjacent mountains to the main ridge ( at Laßnitz something beyond going): to the north the Metnitzer mountains, south of the Mödringbergzug. Both are parts of the Gurktaler Alps. Main settlement area is the Metnitztal with the eponymous river.

In the far north, the two sources of the Lassnitzbaches, the Priewaldbach and Auenbach, the border between Carinthia and Styria.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the Styrian municipalities Laßnitz Murau, Sankt Georgen ob Murau and barn on the Mur. The neighboring municipalities in Carinthia are, from east clockwise Friesach, Strasbourg, Weitensfeld in Gurktal and Glödnitz.

History

The densely forested mountain area was settled comparatively late. The upper Metnitztal 1072 was given by Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg diocese of Gurk. The village Feistritzwerke was settled in the 11th century. To manage the offices Feistritzwerke and Metnitz were built of Gurk. 1346 degree was granted market rights, 1599 Metnitz.

1851, the local church Metnitz was built. In 1973, the municipalities Metnitz and degree were combined with the existing community Metnitz today.

Population

According to 2001 census Metnitz has 2,450 inhabitants, of which 97.9 % are Austrian citizens. 96.0 % of the community population profess the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church 1.3% and Islam 0.3%. Without religious faith, 1.5 %.

Economy and infrastructure

Economically, the community of small businesses and the agricultural and forestry sector is characterized. In 1999 there were 104 primary and 144 part-time farmers, and 6 companies of legal persons, who farmed together 14,440 ha of land. 596 employed in 2001 were commuters.

Transport default, the community is served by the national road L62, which runs from Friesach westward through the Metnitztal to Flattnitz. About 1 km west of Metnitz this aside the L62a ( Woebringer road ) in the Wöbring from. This leads on to pastures, the Carinthian- Styrian border. The L62b ( Grado Road ) branches off at Zwatzhof of the L62 from, degree opens up and flows on the eastern outskirts of Metnitz ( Teichlmühle ) back into the L62. The L62c ( Prekova Street) branches at Marienheim on the L62 and performs on the Prekova to Strasbourg to Gurktal. There are in the municipality nor the L61 ( Laßnitzer road ) as Carinthian section of the Styrian L502 ( St. Lambrecht Street). This L61 is only about 1.3 km long (starting vlg at the border below the homestead. Santner, continue through the village and ending at the Carinthian Laßnitz Mitter bridge between Carinthian and Styrian Laßnitz ).

Coat of arms

In the coat of arms of Metnitz is " in red with a silver swan, to the right border on black, silver combined rock " shown. It is based on a market seals from the time of Maria Theresa ( trade tax list dated March 9, 1751 ); for the interpretation of this motif, there is no reliable evidence. Coat of arms flags confirmation or award certificate, the market town Metnitz were issued on 23 August 1967. The flag is red, white and black with integrated crest.
