Sankt Georgen ob Murau is a municipality with 1367 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the judicial district or district Murau in Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the town of Sankt Ruprecht- Falkendorf, the new community will be named " Sankt Georgen ob Murau " to continue.

She is primarily known by the Kreischberg, since the Snowboard World Championships took place in 2003. 2015 FIS Snowboard and Freestyle World Cup is being held back.

Geography

Sankt Georgen ob Murau is located in Murau in the Austrian province of Styria.

The municipality comprises the cadastral ground village, Lutzmannsdorf, St. Georgen ob Malmesbury and St. Lorenzen.

History

In 1152 Countess Emma of meetings gave born of Pux with the consent of her brothers Henry of Pris and Meginhalm of Vistula castle their own property Babindorf ( bottom village) with all the appurtenance to the monastery parakeet.

The abolition of the manorial system was carried out in 1848., The local church as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938 the congregation to Reichsgau Styria came from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
