Frojach - Katschberg is a municipality with 1140 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the judicial district or district Murau in Styria. On 1 January 1968, it was formed by the merger of the municipalities Frojach and Katsch.

Geography

Location

Frojach - Katsch is centrally located in Murau, and is 10 km from the district capital. It is with an area of ​​38.89 km ², the fourteenth largest municipality in the district. It includes the foothills of the Styrian Katschtals and part of the upper Mur Valley. The place Katschberg is situated in the Schladming Tauern ( Low Tauern ) and Frojach in the Gurktaler Alps. History

Name history

The name Katsch is first mentioned in 982, at that time, however, as Chaczi or chats. As the town became an important trading center from the middle of the 11th century, he is later mentioned several times in the form Chatissa. Frojach was mid-12th century for the first time mentioned in a document in the form Froiach. The handwritten document was written in the Abbey of St. Lambrecht, and is deposited in the University Library of Graz.

In the community Frojach - Katsch in November 2004, 1264 people lived. According to the 2001 census 98.4 % of the population were in the possession of the Austrian citizenship. Demographics

Castle ruins Katsch

Already in the 9th, 10th and 11th century, the castle is mentioned in a document, which suggests that it was already built by the Carolingians. On May 6, 1007, King Henry II gave the bishopric of Freising an extensive royal estate in the then Carantanian Styria, which included the Wölzertal to Lind and the whole area between Katschbach, Mur, Rantental and the line - Schoder Rinegg.
