Michele Mascitti

Michele Mascitti (* 1664 in Villa Santa Maria ( in Chieti), † April 24, 1760 in Paris ) was an Italian violinist and composer of the Baroque.

Life

He was educated by his relatives Marchitelli Pietro (1643-1729), a violinist in the royal court orchestra at Naples and at the " Teatro San Bartolomeo ", possibly by Arcangelo Corelli. Mascitti was temporarily in the royal orchestra, a position, but it pulled it away soon. First, he traveled through Italy, and later throughout Europe. He stayed a long time in Germany, and later in the Netherlands. He was under the patronage of Cardinal Ottoboni and the reigning Duke of Bavaria.

As of 1704, the already forties itself was finally settled in Paris and took the Frenchified name Michel Mascitti. In 1739 he became a French citizen. The Duke of Orléans was one of his patrons, this enabled Mascitti early appearances at the court of Versailles.

His nine sonata collections published Mascitti all in Paris. The four concertos from Op. 7 follow the Concerti Grossi - style of Corelli. During his lifetime was Mascitti the same attention of the music world as Tomaso Albinoni or Corelli. His compositions contain mostly Italian, but also French stylistic elements. They contain a rich abundance of his time novel harmonies.
