Michiel Jansz. van Mierevelt
Michiel van Mierevelt, Michiel Jansz. van also Mierevelt, Miereveld or Miereveldt ( born May 1, 1567 Delft, † June 27, 1641 ) was a Dutch painter.
Life
Mierevelt studied under Anthonie van Montfoort ( called Blocklandt ) in Utrecht ( 1579-83 ), was immediately adopted by a successful portrait painter and led a large studio. He was court painter to the Prince Maurice of Orange, whose most important portraitist he was. Despite the one connection to the Anabaptists stood van Mierevelt also in the service of the Archduke Albert VII of Austria. He painted historical and mythological scenes in an elegant Mannerist style. Among his pupils there was also Anthonie Palamedesz.
Family
Michiel van Mierevelt was married since 1589 to Christina van der Pas ( 1558-1628 ). The couple had three children:
- Geertruid (1594-1639) ∞ 1618 Willem Jacobszoon Delff ( 1580-1638 )
- Maria (1595-1636), ∞ 1629 Johann van Heemskerck van Beest ( 1602-1648 )
- Pieter (1596-1623), painter
