Mickaël Piétrus

Mickael Pietrus ( born February 7, 1982 in Les Abymes, Guadeloupe ) is a French professional basketball player who was active in the NBA last. He was engaged by Golden State Warriors in 2003 and played there until the 2007/2008 season. In summer 2008, he was taken as a free agent by the Orlando Magic under contract. He is 1.98 m tall and can play both the position of the Shooting Guards Small Forwards as well as the.

His older brother, Florent Pietrus is also a professional basketball player who plays along with Mickaël for the French national team.

Career

Mickael Pietrus left the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe at the age of 15 years to participate in the junior program of Élan Béarnais Pau - Lacq - Orthez.

He won the French junior national team the European Championship 2000.

Mickaël won with Pau - Orthez Élan Béarnais the French championship twice (2001 and 2003 ) and once the French Cup ( 2002). In 103 games in the regular season of the French Pro A league, he made an average of 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. In his last three years in France, he played each in the Pro A All- Star Game.

He also denied 27 games for Pau Orthez, in the ULEB Euro League.

Pietrus was drafted by the Golden State Warriors in the 2003 NBA Draft in the first round in 11th place. In the previous four seasons for the Warriors (2003 to 2007), he scored an average of 9.0 points and 3.3 rebounds. His best season was 2006/ 07, in which he posted 11.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and his team could reach the Western Conference semifinals.

After a season with the Phoenix Suns Pietrus should be transferred before the season 2011/2012 of the Suns to the Toronto Raptors. The Suns would get 2 picks for the 2012 draft in return. This trade, however, was canceled a day later due to a knee injury and Phoenix broke the contract with Pietrus on. Then he signed a new contract with the Boston Celtics. For the season 2012/2013 he received first a new contract and held individually fit. He eventually signed a contract until the end of November 2013 at the Toronto Raptors.

In September 2005, he won the French national team the bronze medal at the 2005 European Championships in Serbia. In six matches, he scored an average of 11.5 points and 6.0 rebounds.
