Mickey (song)

Mickey is a song by Toni Basil in 1982, which was written by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. It appeared in the album Word of Mouth.

History

In 1978, the British band Racey grossed a song written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman called Kitty, Toni Basil wrote the lyrics to the title, changed the title to Mickey and filmed a video clip with cheerleaders do so. They even played it in the costume of their old high school, the head cheerleader.

First, the success did not come. It was only with the founding of MTV in 1981 was this early music video so popular that the song on 5 February 1982 and finally published first in the United States, Australia and Canada became a number -one hit and two-time million seller. The success handed to Great Britain, where Basil yet reached second place. In Germany, however, the single had no success, reaching only number 69, after only two weeks left Mickey the German charts. In Austria and Switzerland, Mickey could not place in the charts.

Performers such as the Spice Girls, Avril Lavigne and Ashley Tisdale have the song in their repertoire. 1983, Weird Al Yankovic parody with Ricky his first chart success with the song. 1995 played No Use for a Name, a melodic hardcore version in a medley on the album Leche Con Carne. Reached in 1999, the British singer Lolly with a version of the piece number four on the UK Singles Charts. Artists like Heidi Montag, Limp Bizkit, Madonna and Kylie Minogue sang their own songs about the tune of Mickey. In addition, many artists took Mickey to in their native language and could end up with their versions partly in her native hits, like the Brazilian singer Xuxa. Other cover versions:

Others

The Walt Disney Company used the song in campaigns as a reference to Mickey Mouse. Specially a music video with Mickey was shot in the animated style.
