Microdevario

Microdevario kubotai

Microdevario is a three types of species of very small danios ( Danioninae ) from mainland Southeast Asia. It occurs in Thailand and Burma. The genus name is derived from " micros " (size: small) and the name of the closely related genus devario together.

Features

The Microdevario species only reach body lengths of 15-23 mm, are partially transparent, with a yellowish or greenish color shimmer and yellow or silvery belly and transparent fins. The pectoral fins are sickle-shaped. A characteristic feature of the genus is a semi- circular depression on the parasphenoid that occurs in no other genus of the tribe Danionini and is rare in other cyprinids. A double instead of simple ligament between the premaxilla and the Kinethmoid, one for the carp -like typical bone, they have in common with Chela, Laubuca and devario and shows their close relationship with these genres. Of the three genera is Microdevario differs by the absence of a groove on the Supra orbital Talia, a cranial bone, and the concave outer edge of dorsal and anal fin. From Microrasbora, a further Bärblingsgattung with dwarfism, is Microdevario differs by numerous features of the skull anatomy.

Other features, but no autapomorphies, are the absence of barbels, the absence of perforated scales on the lateral line and the lower number of dorsal vertebrae towards the caudal vertebrae.

  • Dandruff formula: MLR 24-26 1-2, 10-13 scales before the dorsal fin.
  • Fins formula: Dorsal: 2-3/7-8; Anal: 3/9-13, Ventral: 6-7 Caudal: 10 9 principal fin rays, 9 8 branched fin rays.
