Micronycteris Microtis

Micronycteris is a genus of bats of the family of leaf lobes ( Phyllostomidae ), which is native to Central and South America.

Description

Depending on the head-body length is 42-69 mm, the forearm length 31-57 mm and weight of adult animals 4-16 g The coat color is generally brown with a lighter belly. Micronycteris minuta can also be colored red. Like most representative of the family of the leaf lobes also have species of the genus Micronycteris a striking nose leaf.

Way of life

Species of the genus Micronycteris come in a variety of habitats, from semi-arid habitats to tropical rain forests. You are like most bats nocturnal and feed on insects. During the day the animals hang in hollow trees, abandoned buildings, mines and caves. This species of this genus usually hang alone or in small groups of no more than 20 individuals.

Species

We distinguish eight types according to IUCN:

  • Micronycteris brosseti - Amazon basin of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Brazil, as well as in Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.
  • Micronycteris hirsuta - From Honduras to northern Peru and central Brazil.
  • Micronycteris Matses - Has been described as a kind only in 2002 and so far only found in the Peruvian province of Loreto.
  • Micronycteris megalotis - east of the Andes from Colombia to Bolivia and southern Brazil.
  • Micronycteris Microtis - From Mexico to northern Brazil and eastern Bolivia.
  • Micronycteris minuta - From Honduras to Brazil.
  • Micronycteris sanborni - Has been described as a kind only in 1996 and so far found only in northeastern Brazil.
  • Micronycteris schmidtorum - From southern Mexico to Brazil.
