Midnattsol
Midnattsol is a Norwegian- German folk metal band.
History
Was founded in 2002 by Carmen Elise Midnattsol Espenæs and Christian Hector. Shortly thereafter, Daniel Droste, Birgit Öllbrunner, Chris Merzinsky and Daniel Fischer were joined. In 2003 they released their first demo, through which the Austrian label Napalm Records became aware of the band, which led to a recording contract. The band's debut album was released under the name Where Twilight Dwells 2004. The album promotion was part of the "castle tour " rather than as support of In Extremo in the spring of 2005. 2005 were Midnattsol on among others the "Fire Dance Festival " Summer Breeze, Wave -Gotik-Treffen and at the Metal Female Voices Fest. In 2006, followed by appearances at the Mera Luna Festival, and another time at the Metal Female Voices Fest in Belgium Wieze.
In September 2007, the recordings for the successor album Nordlys, which was released on 28 March 2008 began. Shortly after the release left founding member Christian Hector in May 2008, the band in order to pursue his project of Ahab. He attributed this to a lack of time as well as the musical development of Midnattsol. In September it was found with Fabian Pospiech a replacement for Hector.
In October 2009 Midnattsol won the " MFVF BEST HOPE AWARD" and was simultaneously announced the introduction of the new guitarist Alex Kautz. In early December of the year was guitarist Daniel Droste known his departure from Midnattsol, since he, as a year earlier even Hector, more wanted to concentrate on the band Ahab. In May 2010 Midnattsol made her first appearance on the Ragnarök Festival.
In July 2010, the band announced the completion of the recording sessions for their third album called "The Metamorphosis Melody ", which was released on April 22, 2011. The album promotion was held together with Leaves' Eyes as part of a tour.
Carmen Elise Espenæs founded in spring 2013 with The Sins Of Thy Beloved two members Stig Johansen and Anders Thue, Norwegian Bryne the Gothic Folk Metal band- SAVN.
Style
Midnattsoll plays folk metal with distinct gothic metal elements. The songs are mostly / 8 time composed in 6.
The lyrics tell occasionally traditional Norwegian legends and after, and often also based only on these and are invented mostly free. Written by singer Espenæs they are. Behind the stories usually conceals a deeper meaning, so many personal experiences from the life of the singer are processed therein and the mythical creatures often represent only a metaphor of man dar.
Carmen Elise Espenæs
Carmen Elise Espenæs (* 1983 in Stavanger ) is the sister of Liv Kristine (formerly of Theatre of Tragedy, now frontwoman of Leaves' Eyes). In 2003, she sang guest vocals of the first Leaves' -Eyes - Single Into your light. Shortly thereafter, she refused the offer of the band Cradle of Filth from, how to follow them on their world tour and instead went into the studio with Midnattsol. In 2006 she sang at the Mera Luna Festival a duet with her sister Liv Kristine.
Penetralia
Penetralia is the precursor band, later Midnattsol emerged from the. The band was founded in 1994 by Christopher Merzinsky and Daniel Droste. Other members were Christian Hector, Felix, Gramling, Daniel Fischer and Bianca Eyermann. Over the band's two demos (1996 " Black " and 1998 " Tribute To The Moon" ) were published.
The debut album " Carpe Noctem - Legends of Fullmoon Empires " was released in early 1999 via Last Episode. 2000 appeared the second and last album Seelenkrank. As a guest singers were Gerhard " Felix" Stass ( Crematory ) and Clausi ( Blood) of the party. The band broke up after her appearance on the Brett Hart festival.
