Miercurea Sibiului

Miercurea Sibiului ( Reußmarkt German, Hungarian Szerdahely ) is a city in Transylvania ( Romania).

Location

Reußmarkt located in Sibiu County, 34 km west of the county capital Sibiu in the lower forest on the European routes E68 and E81.

History

Reußmarkt was founded around 1200 by Transylvanian Saxon settlers. Subsequently it became a high administrative position as seat of one of the seven chairs. Economically dominated traditionally agriculture and livestock. 2004, the church became a town.

Evangelical Church

The featured, dating from the 13th century Evangelical fortified church is currently being restored with the support of the Transylvanian Saxon Foundation ( since 2005).

Local Politics

The Local Council of Reußmarkt consists of 13 members. In the local elections of 2012 Ioan Troancă was re-elected by the Democratic- Liberal Party.
