History

Migennes comes from Gallo-Roman times and was called in the Roman Empire Mitigana. This is evidenced by the excavation of mosaics and other cultural objects in the 19th century. Your ascent of a small community, the city owes the one hand, the construction of the Canal de Bourgogne ( German: Burgundy Canal ), which is here connected with the river Yonne, on the other hand, the emergence of the railway junction Laroche. This is midway between Paris and Dijon to the railway Paris-Marseille and Migennes - Cosne and therefore allowed in the First World War, a strategically advantageous provision of steam locomotives. Today the station Laroche- Migennes has lost importance because the long-distance trains came with the construction of the LGV Sud -Est from Paris to East a different route.
