Miguel Cabrera (painter)

Miguel Mateo Maldonado y Cabrera ( born May 27, 1695 in Oaxaca, † May 16, 1768 in Mexico City ) was a painter neuspanischer. He is beside Juan de Ibarra as the most important representatives of the colonial 18th century painting.

Miguel Cabrera was an orphan from Oaxaca. His most frequently treated subject was Our Lady of Guadalupe. Important works Cabrera had his portrait of the poet Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, as well as the Via Crucis in the Cathedral of Mexico City and the Martyrdom de san Sebastian in the church of Taxco.
