Miguel Montuori

Miguel Ángel Montuori (* September 24, 1932 in Rosario, † June 4, 1998 in Florence ) was an Italian- Argentine footballer, he played at the position of center forward.

Career

For the 1955/56 season moved Miguel Ángel Montuori of CD Universidad Católica in Santiago de Chile for Serie A club AC Fiorentina, in the same season came next Montuori yet another world-class players from South America to Fiorentina, namely the Brazilian Julinho. During his time in Florence, he took in the 1955/56 season the first Scudetto for the viola. In the six seasons with Fiorentina, he scored a total of 72 matches. Due to his outstanding performance, he even made ​​the jump to the Italian national team, for which he was specially naturalized.

He was still one of the best football players when he had to quit his career abruptly. In a friendly match in 1961 against AC Perugia he was hit so badly by a strong shot of an opponent that the retina breaking away, leading to irreparable damage to the eye. Due to permanent vision problems he had to finish with only 28 years of his career. After the vision problems over time had somewhat mitigated, he tried in Italy and Chile relatively unsuccessful as a coach. In 1988 he returned to Florence and found here a modest job in the local library. However, he remained true to his passion for football and coached the youth team of a Florentine province team, where he, inter alia, the young Flachi discovered. Montuori died in 1998 in his adopted hometown of Florence from a serious illness.
