The climbing Mikanie ( Mikania scandens ) is a plant of the genus Mikania.

Features

The climbing Mikanie is a perennial, herbaceous, twining plant, which reaches stature heights of 2 to 5 feet. Maybe it is from above-ground runners. The leaves are opposite, heart-shaped, stalked away and cambered -toothed to entire. The inflorescences are schirmrispig in the leaf axils. The flower heads are small and vierblütig. The bracts are 4 to 5.5 millimeters in size. The flowers are white or pink.

The flowering period extends from (July) August to October.

Occurrence

The climbing Mikanie happens to temperate South America from Mexico and the Bahamas over Texas and Illinois to New York in the subtropical. The species grows in moist thickets on the coastal plain and on springs, streams and lakes.

Use

The climbing Mikanie is rarely used as an ornamental plant for trellises. It is in culture at least since 1825.
