Mike Dodd

Michael " Mike" Dodd ( born August 20, 1957 in Manhattan Beach, California ) is a former American professional volleyball and beach volleyball player. He also worked as a TV pundit and coach.

Career

Mike Dodd played from 1981 to 1993 on the AVP tour with Tim Hovland and from 1993 to 1997, international with Mike Whitmarsh. The duo was able to win the 1996 Grand Slam in Espinho and the World Series tournament in Fortaleza. In the Olympic tournament in Atlanta they were subject only in the finale their compatriots Charles Kiraly and Kent Steffes. The following year, Dodd reached with Robert Heidger ninth at the first World Cup in Los Angeles.

Dodd was one of the most successful players of the AVP Tour in the 1990s. Overall, he scored 72 victories in the American tournaments. From 1994 to 1997, he was awarded several times as the best defensive player and player of the year.

Dodd also played successfully Indoor Volleyball in the U.S. national team ( 1981-82 and 1985) and in the Italian A1 League ( 1982-84 and 1986).

In other Olympic tournaments Dodd worked in other functions. 2000 Sydney and 2004 in Athens, he worked as a TV pundit for indoor and beach volleyball at NBC. In Beijing in 2008, he coached Jacob Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. The following year he was the first coach, who was in charge at the Manhattan Beach Open, the victorious duo in the men ( Gibb / Rosenthal) and the ladies (Nicole Branagh / Elaine Youngs ).

Private

Mike Dodd is married to the beach volleyball player Patty Dodd. They have two daughters and live in Manhattan Beach.
