Mike Morris (ice hockey)
Mike Morris ( * July 14, 1983 in Braintree, Massachusetts) is an American professional ice hockey player. Most recently, he played for the Worcester Sharks in the American Hockey League on the position of the right winger.
Career
Mike Morris began his career in hockey team of the Saint Sebastian 's School. There he was able to achieve 106 points in 59 games in two years and so impressed the talent scouts of the San Jose Sharks, who selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 in the first round at position 27. Morris was the first player who was pulled in the first round before his first year of college in the NHL Entry Draft.
Morris nevertheless moved directly into the National Hockey League, but provisionally studied at Northeastern University sociology. He joined there the ice hockey team of the College at the Northeastern Huskies, who played in the Hockey East Division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Although, at best, the team belonged to the mediocrity of the league, managed to Morris after his first season for appointment to the Hockey East All- Rookie Team. In the following years he was able to improve from season to season. He scored in the 2003/04 season for 30 points in 34 games, so there were already 39 points on the year. During the 2005/06 season, however, he could deny a single game since he suffered the consequences of a concussion he sustained in a car accident. In the fall of 2006, he was reinstated and led his team as team captain on the ice.
After graduating in the spring of 2007, he signed on 23 April 2007 a standard contract with the San Jose Sharks, who invited him to training camp in the summer. Since he could not prevail, and conquered a place in the NHL strain squad, the management sent him to the Worcester Sharks, the farm team in the American Hockey League.
