Mike Murphy (ice hockey, born 1989)

Mike Murphy ( born January 15, 1989 in Kingston, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who was last until November 2012 when HK Spartak Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Mike Murphy began his career as a hockey player with the Kingston Voyageurs, for which he was active from 2004 to 2006 in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. In the 2005/06 season the goalkeeper came in parallel with three inserts for the Belleville Bulls of the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League, for whom he ran aground permanently from 2006 to 2009. Especially in his last two seasons at junior level he was able to convince. In the years 2008 and 2009 he was respectively the goalkeeper with the lowest Gegentorschnitt and the best catch rate of OHL. In both years, he was also elected to the first All-Star team in the league and the OHL Goaltender of the Year. In addition, he was elected in 2008 in the second All- Star team of the Canadian Hockey League and 2009 in their first All-Star team. In the 2008 /09 season he also received the Dave Pinkney Trophy for the lowest Gegentorschnitt an OHL goalie trailer combination.

During his time in the Ontario Hockey League Murphy was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2008 in the sixth round as the 165th overall player of the Carolina Hurricanes. In the 2009/10 season, he ran on exclusively for their farm team at that time the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. In the following two years, he also stood at Carolinas new AHL farm team in the AHL Charlotte Checkers between the posts. He also ran in two games for the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League in the season 2011 /12. For the 2012/13 season, the Canadian was obliged by HK Spartak Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League, but was released on 1 November 2012 after seven stakes from his contract.
