Mike Smith (Dave Clark Five)

Michael George Smith ( born December 6, 1943 in Edmonton, North London, † February 28, 2008 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire ) was an English singer, composer and music producer.

In the 1960s, Smith was the lead singer and keyboardist of the band The Dave Clark Five, to the representatives of the British Invasion counted alongside the Beatles.

Biography

Smith began with five years of playing the piano. He later took lessons in classical piano and was adopted at the age of 13 years at the Trinity Music College in London. At the age of 17, he was by Dave Clark, with whom he had played in the same football team, invited to join the band Dave Clark Five lead singer and keyboard player. Smith's singing style showed it clear influences of Elvis Presley. After the band had disbanded in 1970, Smith played for several years continued to work with Clark, now under the name " Dave Clark & ​​Friends." From 1976 he worked as a music producer and composer for jingles in television advertising.

In 2003, he crashed so badly that he drew upon himself a paraplegic, with its consequences, he never recovered in his residence in Spain. Only after four years of treatment, he was discharged from the hospital on 6 December 2007. On 28 February 2008, he died of complications - eleven days before he was to be admitted as a member of the Dave Clark Five into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
