Mike Zonneveld

Mike Zonneveld ( born October 27, 1980 in Leiden) is a Dutch former football player, who was last at NAC Breda in the Eredivisie under contract.

Playing career

The beginnings

Mike Zonneveld was discovered by scouts from the Dutch record champions Ajax Amsterdam early on. With the permission of his parents, he went away from home and moved to the excellent youth academy of Ajax. There he was for many years as a giant talent, was never nominated for the first team. For this reason, the defender decided in 1999 to leave the club and playing at second division Go Ahead Eagles. There he came in his first professional season on two goals in 18 games. Then he went to the first division club NEC Nijmegen for which he spent four years as regularly active.

Breda and PSV

In summer 2004, Zonneveld went to league rivals NAC Breda. In his first season there, he came up with four goals in 20 games, but in the second year of the midfield all-rounder was thrown back from a serious injury in his development and was only five missions in which he once met. His final breakthrough he achieved as a leading player 2006/2007 when he scored six goals in 31 games and was committed after the season by reigning champions PSV Eindhoven. He signed a four -year contract. In the 2009/10 season he was loaned to FC Groningen. For the season 2010/11 he moved to Cyprus AEL Limassol, but returned in May 2011, returned to the Netherlands. After he had held some weeks at NAC Breda fit, the veteran of his old club received a new contract for two seasons. Due to persistent injuries, he ended his active career in January 2013.
