Mikel Nieve

Mikel Nieve Iturralde ( born May 26, 1984 in Leitza, Navarre ) is a Spanish cyclist. Since 2009, he runs for the Spanish team Euskaltel -Euskadi.

As an amateur he could enter 2007 victories at the Memorial Race Valenciaga and Cursa Ciclista de Llobregat. With his move to the Spanish Continental team Orbea his professional career began. In its first year as a professional he could shine at the Spanish stage race Cinturó de l' Empordà. The first stage he finished in fourth place in the overall classification, he finished in third place. In 2009 he joined the UCI ProTour team Euskaltel -Euskadi.

In the Vuelta a España 2010 he exhibited his strength on the mountain to the test. At first he was an important helper for his captain Igor Antón. After his retirement he took advantage of the situation and secured the stage win on the mountainous section 16. At the Giro d' Italia 2011, he won the queen stage alone and reached as well at the Vuelta a España in 2011 ranked 10th in the overall standings (after the subsequent disqualification of Alberto Contador ).

In 2012, he again reached the 10th place in the Giro d' Italia in 2012. During the Tour de Suisse he reached a second place on the 8th stage and 5th place in the overall standings.
